GBARC Meeting Minutes May 2007

Meeting Date:
May 7, 2007
Meeting Location:
Main Fire Station, 1111 Church St., Beloit, WI.
President Dave Wendt, N9GQ, called the meeting to order at 7:30 pm.  Dave had everyone introduce themselves and say what they do in their spare time. There were a variety of comments, including several on gardening.  K9EP, Jerry, said that he played in the Janesville senior citizens band.  Come and join in the dancing on Friday morning at 9 AM. WD9BB, Chuck, has his bees, about 50 fruit trees, and his humongous garden.  Everyone seems to have something going including ham radio.

Treasurer Report by WD9BB, Chuck: Started out the month of May with $409.99.  With an income of $89 from stuff sold at the hamfest that was given to the Club by Norm, WB9BJU, and dues paid by Bob, K9RIJ.

Recording Secretary Report by W9DL, Conrad, was read and approved.  He is still looking for the old minute book and the current club bylaws.

Old Business/ New Business

K9RIJ, Bob, has Ham Radio stuff in his garage left over from WB9BJU, Norm, who moved from the area.  You may call Bob and come and take it.

Beloit Amateur Club WEB Site.  N9SZV, Ron, is in charge.  The secretary will send out a special email on this with the proper information and web address for you to use.

Field Day June 23 & 24 of 2007 will be discussing at the next meeting.  Be prepared to discuss what you want to do. So far the club is looking to have the event at a location with a better exposure to the general public, like a city park.

Program for the Night:   KA9VHG, Jim, presented a program on Digital Mode.  Getting on the air is easy with your amateur radio license and the following.  A computer with the proper software (probably free in the Internet). Also a transceiver radio with SSB and /or FM.  The windows program must be 2000 or better.  The signal from this setup is very narrow and quiet. You talk with others bye the keyboard.  Jim brought his antenna mounted on a tripod (Buddy Pole) in the corner of the room.   A lot of the typing jargon is still from the CW days.  There are traffic nets.  If you want to speak with Jim on this, his email address is KA9VHGatarrl [dot] net. We did monitor the sound from this setup and it sounds like CW with a musical tone.  This was shown to us from an overhead.  He used digital on field day, scoring 722 points last year.

The next club meeting June 4th.
The meeting ended at 9:15 PM.
