GBARC Meeting Minutes April 2017

Meeting Date:
April 3, 2017
Meeting Location:
Main Fire Station, 1111 Church St., Beloit, WI.
President Brett-K9BY called the meeting to order at 7:10 pm.   Attendance was 14.   Introductions were made. The question of the evening was:  Did you participate in the Wisc. QSO Party or the Jefferson Ham Fest?   Most Hams did one or both.    Minutes of the March 6th, 2017 meeting were corrected and accepted.   Club Treasurer, Al-KC9QQO, was absent; no Treasurer's Report was available.
Old Business:President Brett-K9BY and Secretary Carl-W9BJ presented a list of the paid-up members of B.A.R.C for 2017.  Members and their email addresses are presented elsewhere on this website.   We normally have 20 - 30 members and a number of occasional visitors.
A review was given of the selection of members to the club Board of Directors.   This year, two of the five members must be selected.  The two year terms of Al-KC9QQO and Carl-W9BJ have expired.
New Business: Brett-K9BY took nominations for the two Board of Directors.  Four members sought the election:  Dean-K9FLO, Greg-K9GJN, Al-KC9QQO, and Carl-W9BJ.  An election was held and the winners were Dean-K9FLO and Greg-K9GJN.   The Board of Directors will select a new Treasurer and Secretary from the five elected members.
We should devote most of the May and June club meeting to planning for the club's Field Day effort on June 23, 24 and 25.   We will again be at the Janesville Fire Training Center.
Program:  Show and Tell.  Brett-K9BY demonstrated his Electric-Electronic Screw Driver.   It featured a built-in electronic Gyroscope sensor for stability that measures relative motion.   It allows more intuitive speed and direction control.   It is not the same type of mechanical gyroscope that spins around like a top.  Dean-K9FLO distributed a 3-page handout about Space Weather, Radio Communications Dashboard, from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, (NOAA).   It contained scales of Geomagnetic Storms, Solar Radiation Storms and Radio Blackouts.   Carl-W9BJ recommended a free, 98 minute movie on YouTube about Electrical Pioneer Nickola Tesla, The Secret of Nickola Tesla.
Announcements: The Stoughton, WI Swap Fest is Saturday, April 8th.
Final:   Our next meeting is Monday, May 1st, 2017.   The meeting was adjourned at 8:37 pm.
