GBARC Meeting Minutes December 2016

Meeting Date:
December 5, 2016
Meeting Location:
Main Fire Station, 1111 Church St., Beloit, WI.
President Brett-K9BY, called the meeting to order at 7:14 pm.   Attendance was 10.   Introductions were made. The question of the evening was:  Any recent contest activity?   Only Dan Servais had worked Sweep Stakes CW & SSB, CQ WWDX, and 160 Meters,   Minutes of the Nov. 7th, 2016 meeting were corrected.   Club Treasurer, Al-KC9QQO, presented the Treasurer's Report.
Old Business:  Brett-K9BY showed the two Off-Center-Fed (OCF) dipole antennas (All Band) for our 2017 Field Day.
A discussion was held on possible monthly club meetings for 2017.  It was decided to have a meeting in January but not in February.  We will
decide later about a summer meeting schedule.  One possibility is to meet in the second Monday of July and the skip August.
The renovation of the Clinton Repeater location is finished for this year.  Last to be completed was the vinyl siding. The club paid for the materials and the labor was donated.  It is a big improvement in appearance; a worthy "Radio Shack"!
New Business: Brett-K9BY announced that our new Program Director will be Kim-N9UBJ.  Suggestions for upcoming programs should be sent to Kim.   Club finances were discussed.  Dues will be remain at $20 for 2017.  We do get extra money from selling donated equipment.
This weekend is the ARRL 10 Meters Contest, Dec 9-10.  See the ARRL website or QST for details.
Program:    Brett-K9BY led a discussion about our club Field Day results as listed in QST.  We were well ahead of other ham groups in Wisconsin in the 3A catagory.  The top scoring group in 3A was a group of 200 individuals; we did it with 15 hams.
Carl-W9BJ had visited with former member Ed Green-N9QG who is in the process of moving from Milton.  Ed donated some equipment to club members.  A nice Heath Dip Meter Set and a Superior Electric 7.5 Ampere Autotransformer, Variable 0-140 VAC.
A solder demonstration was given by Chuck--WD9BB.  It was well received.
A 50-50 Raffle was held for cash.  Dean-K9FLO won $11. He donated the money to a special Pot Fund.   Dan-K9IBM won a Flexible Keyboard.
Announcements: A Winter Field Day will be held the last weekend in January the 28th-29th.     It is sponsored by the Winter Field Day Association, not the ARRL.   The Winter Field Day Association (WFDA) is a dedicated group of Amateur Radio Operators who believe that emergency communications in a winter environment is just as important as the preparations and practice that is done each summer but with some additional unique operational concerns. For details, do an internet search for Winter Field Day.  It was suggested that a small group might use Chuck-WD9BB's backyard workshop that is heated.  He also has access to a nice Antenna Farm.
Final: Our next meeting is Monday, January 2, 2017.   The meeting was adjourned at 8:55 pm.
