GBARC Meeting Minutes December 2018

An introduction of everyone present was done.    

Secretary Report:

Dean-k9flo reviewed the minutes from the November 5, meeting,   Recommended for Approval by Lyndon-wa9jld seconded by Chuck-wd9bb and the membership approved as read.

Treasurer Report:

Greg-k9gjn gave the current treasurer’s report.    Motion to approve Treasurer Report by Chuck-wd9bb and seconded by Tom-n9tom.        

Old Business:   

Brett-k9by and Chuck-wd9bb reviewed the results of our 2018 Field Day which was published in the December 2018 QST.    For our Class 3A we placed fiftieth in the Country and first in the State of Wisconsin for the 3A class.    We had a discussion on the area results and adding more operating modes (FT8).      Brett-k9by inquired the status of looking for a vanity club call sign?   We had a discussion on our club call sign and it was decided we would use our current (KD9LWF) while we look for a vanity call sign.    The Pie- ride event we will be looking for people with APRS capabilities.

  New Business

Winter Field is coming January 26-27, 2019.   We will be using Chuck-wd9bb shop at his QTH.     We discussed using commercial power or set up emergency power.   It was decided we would try to use Emergency pwr.    We will set up at least two stations and have a spare radio    Will be using the dipoles, and may-by add a six meter antenna.    Winter Field day January 26 & 27 2019, Summer Field June 22 &23, 2019.      We will meet at Denny’s January 26^th 8:00AM for Breakfast and do the Winter Field Day planning.    Next Winter meetings could be pending on weather conditions so read your e-mails which we will if needed attempt send out by Noon.    Elections for two Board members will be nominated in March and voting on at the April meeting.    A motion was made by Tom-n9tom to grant Lyndon-wa9jld a lifetime membership, it was seconded by Carl-w9bj and the membership approved.     Don-k9da informed the members of his experiences of having his antennas/radios/electronics/ home hit by lighting last October.      Don-k9da and everyone discussed the lighting damage,insurance experiences and what changes can be made.    Carl-w9bj brought up the issues of what happens with EMT event.    We had a discussion on the effects and what could be done.   Ed-kb9ndp suggested we make up a club logo for jackets, badges, shirts and signage (banner).     Brett thought years ago the club elders had made a logo.     Brett we will will pursue.   

Announcements:

Brett-k9by reminded everyone Dues are due January 2019.

Program

Chuck-wd9bb brought in his home brew Tunable Field Strength Meter.   He gave a presentation on operation, design and building and applications.  Thanks Chuck!
