Vice President, Dave, N9GQ, called the meeting to order at 7:01 pm.   Attendance was 23 (4 guests).  Introductions were given.   The Question of the Evening was “Name your first call and the year it was issued.”   Most had ninth area calls and years ranged from the 1950’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and the 2000’s.
The Secretary report for February was given by Carl, W9BJ.   The Treasurers Report was given by Al, KC9QQO.   Dues for 2014 were collected.
Old Business:  Conrad, W9DL, introduced long-time club member Ivan Makovec, W9AFW (1960's).  Ivan recently completed being the Network Control operator of the Senile Net on 20 meters.  He did this, Monday through Friday, 8-9 am, for the last seven years.   Ivan, a US Navy veteran of WWII, turns age 90 this month.  Conrad provided a birthday cake and coffee for all.  We sang Happy Birthday to Ivan.  Ivan was appreciative.   A good time was had by all.
New Business:  A 50-50 Raffle was introduced as a fund raiser.  A ticket for $1.  The winner of the cash pot of $48, was Dave, N9GQ.   The winner of the Baofeng 2 Meter Handitalkie was Doug, W9PN.   A discussion about the June 2014 Field Day was lead by Greg, K9GJN.  We should use the months remaining to plan.   A discusssion of QRP, low power operation, was held.   Some decisions will be made at the April meeting.  FD location will be the Janesville Fire Training facility again.  President Brett, K9BY, discussed the possible change of hosts for our club website.   We could save money by changing internet hosts.  A motion passed to make a change.
Announcements:  Conrad, W9DL, announced the next Ham Breakfast at Denny's at the Flying J truck stop in South Beloit on Saturday, March 8th at 8:00 am.  Everyone is invited.   Dave Rounds, old call KC9UQD, has a new call, AK9F.   Dave, N9GQ, stated that the year 2014 was our club's 50th anniversary and after we obtain a amateur radio call for the club, we could had a special events station this fall.   A computerized video frame was shown by Doug, W9PN.  He had it loaded with QSL card images.   Conrad, W9DL, will have a table at the Jefferson Swapfest Sunday, March 16, 8:00-12:00.   Wisconsin QSO Party is this month.
The ARRL 100th anniversary stations are doing well.   Dave, N9GQ, recommended that club members participate in our club's Yahoo message board.
Program:  Dave, N9GQ, introduced Chinese Radios.  He discussed and showed a variety of Chinese electronics by using the internet.   At least eight club members have Chinese units.   The main feature seems to be the bargain prices.  The down side was the complexity of programming channels and deciphering the instruction manuals. Also, there was an episode of faulty capacitors that harmed a lot of units.    Al, KC9QQO, described techniques that he has found successful.   The quality seems to be improving.   The discussions-presentations lasted for about an hour.
Final: The meeting adjourned before 9:00 pm.
