Program: Brett-k9by Wisconsin QSO party: Mike-WO9B from the West Allis Club did a presentation on the up-coming Wisconsin QSO party, Sunday March 14th , 1:00 PM CDT to 8:00 PM CDT (Sunday 1800Z to Monday 0100Z). It is focused on Wisconsin operators: stations and mobiles. Many operators use just a dipole and a 100w radio. The primary operation is HF, but there is a growing number of VHF and UHF operators. Transmission is phone (1-point), CW (2 points) and digital but no FT modes. Multipliers is power: high over 100w 1pt, low 1.5, QRP 2pts, county points. If you are a club member living in Illinois, you can operate/points as a GBARC member. For more information on the QSO parity see web site: http://www.warac.org/wqp/wqp.htm
Brett-k9by gave presentation on his meeting with Bill Kemp from the HERC. The presentation was on a catastrophic event 8.9 earthquake with an epicenter at southern Illinois. There is eight Hospitals damaged into western central Wisconsin. They are requesting our communication skills and equipment for providing alternate communications redundancy. A lengthy discussion followed. It was discussed the lack of public knowledge and the understanding of Hams and Hams being there for true emergency loss of communications and power. The advantage of Hams is we are totally decentralized! Brett-k9by will keep in contact with Bill at HERC.
Welcome Daniel KE0WJL live for Colorado.
Next Meeting will be April 5, 2021.
