GBARC Meeting Minutes May 2015

Meeting Date:
May 4, 2015
Meeting Location:
Main Fire Station, 1111 Church St., Beloit, WI.
President Brett, K9BY, called the meeting to order at 7:06 pm.   Attendance was 22.  Introductions were made.  The question of the evening was about attending the Dayton, Ohio Hamvention.    Six hams have been there; some many times.   Minutes of the April meeting were presented and corrected.    Al, KC9QQO, gave the Treasurers report; we are in good shape for Field Day expenses.

Old Business:  Brett, K9BY, updated us on the Hospital radio network in Winnebago and Rock Counties. It uses the Rockford Repeater on 147.255 MHz.    We would like Wisconsin hospitals to be active, namely:  Janesville Mercy and St. Mary's, the Edgerton Hospital, and the Rock County EOC.   Steve Bandt, Bandt Engineering, would be installing an antenna for the new St. Mary's hospital.

Preparations for the 2015 Field Day, June 27-28th, were discussed.  More operators and volunteers are needed, especially for the Friday evening set-up and the Sunday afternoon take-down.   The location will be at the Janesville Fire Department Training site in North Janesville. Lyndon, WA9JLD, will provide the emergency generator power.  Al, KC9QQO, is doing Public Relations, press releases and satellite equipment.  Brett, K9BY is planning to provide network logging and possibly will bring a 10/20 meter digital station.   Still open is the 15/75/80 meter station.   Dan Servais, K9IBM, and wife Linda, will provide the Saturday evening meal.   More details will be finalized at the June 1st BARC meeting.

A mailing to all Rock County hams was considered.  We could use Bill Schwebke, WA9CK? at State Line Printing.  The cost would probably be over $300.00,

New Business:  A Special Event ham station was proposed in honor of the Janesville 99; US Army soldiers that served in the Philippine Islands in World War II.  They particiapated in the Bataan Death March as prisoners of the Japanese, and other atrocities like the Hell Ships.   Dave, N9GQ, will consider it.   The weekly B.A.R.C. 2-Meter Network needs a new Network Control Operator.

Dave, N9JDQ, is resigning after over eight years of faithfully managing the net.  A big thanks, Dave, for a job well done!!!

Raffle:  A 50-50 Raffle was held.  The winner of the 160 in 1 Electronics Kit was Dave, KA9SFT.  The kit was donated by Conrad, W9DL.  The cash was won by Steve, KD9CNX; who donated it to the club treasury.

Program:  A general discussion was held.   Brett, K9BY, demo-ed his Nixie Tube Digital Clock.  This was a vintage gift idea, brought up to date.

Announcements:  Ebay has Rubidium Frequency Standards on sale for $75 - 120.   Get them while they are hot.

Final:  Our next meeting will be Monday, June 1st.    Bring a guest!    Meeting adjourned.
