GBARC Meeting Minutes November 2015

Main Fire Station, 1111 Church St., Beloit, WI.
Vice-President Dave, N9GQ , called the meeting to order at 7:00pm.   Attendance was 22.   Introductions were made. The question of the evening was about membership in the ARRL; most are members.  Minutes of the October 5th meeting were presented by Secretary, Carl, W9BJ.   Al, KC9QQO, gave the Treasurers report.
 
Old Business:   A successful Fox Hunt was held Saturday, October 24, by the club using 2 meters.  Local area repeater improvements are continuing.   
 
New Business: Dan, K9IBM, discussed restrictions on antennna towers.  He gave a short history of related government regulations; this included the 2001 Wisconsin Act 50.  This statute is patterned after a similar federal law.  He suggested that amateur antenna and towers should be accomodated in a reasonable manner.   Dan also requested that we purchase a Greater Beloit Amateur Radio Club Banner.   This would be displayed for publicity at our Field Day activities and community activities.   More information will be available at the December meeting.
 
Program: Dave, N9GQ, conducted an auction of some ham radio parts and equipment that had belonged to Lowell Wilson, W9NUC, a Silent Key at age 98.  Lowell was a long time educator, ham and former club member from Janesville and Whitewater.   A significant amount of money was transferred to the club treasury.   Dave, N9GQ, presented an educational program on the Art of Soldering.   He showed two videos about good Techniques of Soldering.  He distributed a Soldering Guidelines paper.   Chuck, WD9BB, contributed soldering tips.   He suggested a method of cleaning corroded copper antenna wire by carefully using muratic acid as a surface cleaner.   A 50-50 Club Raffle was held.  Dan, K9IBM, won $24. 
 
Announcements:  Our next meeting is Monday, December 7th, 2015.
