GBARC Meeting Minutes November 2016

Meeting Date:
November 7, 2016
Meeting Location:
Main Fire Station, 1111 Church St., Beloit, WI.
President Brett-K9BY, called the meeting to order at 7:06 pm.   Attendance was 16.   Introductions were made. The question of the evening was:  Have you acquired or purchased new ham items recently?   Six hams said yes.   Minutes of the Oct.3rd, 2016 meeting are on the club website.   Club Treasurer, Al-KC9QQO, was absent.
Old Business:  Brett-K9BY announced that we have received a FRN from the FCC.   A form letter for a club call was prepared and signed for mailing.
Greg-K9GJN will be the Trustee for our new license.       We should have a Suggestion Box at the Dec. meeting.
Brett-K9BY described the Oct. 22nd club Fox Hunt on 2 meters.  It went well.   We may do this four times a year; maybe after the monthly breakfasts at S. Beloit.
Brett was able to purchase two Off-Center-Fed (OCF) dipole antennas (All Band) for our 2017 Field Day.  He received a double discount at HRO, Milwaukee.
Bob-W9EWZ and Carl-W9BJ attended the Oct. 18th meeting in Madison hosting Kermit Carlson-W9XA, our new ARRL Central Division Director.
It was announced that we should all consider possible monthly club meetings for the coming year.  We could have two extra summer meeting or two less winter meetings.  We could also meet all twelve months.  We will decide in the future.
The Clinton Repeater location was reviewed.   Hap Little-WB9SHS (SK), owner of a Quarry, provided facilities for 2 meter and 440 repeaters.  The Radio Shack was constructed by Norm Folts-WB9BJU and Bob Barker-K9BNR.   This summer, the Shack was electrically rewired, dry-walled and a new Metal Door was installed.   It was recommended that the Repeater Association spend about $225 for Vinyl Siding and Metal Parts.  The labor will be donated.  In the future, we may install Solar Panels, Air-Dust Filter and other upgrades.  The repeater is currently off the air for improvements.    Lyndon-WA9JLD has been a driving force to sustain repeater activity over the years.
New Business: Brett-K9BY reminded the club that we now have an opening for Program Director; David Wendt N9GQ/VE3EAC served until moving to Canada.
Program:  Lyndon-WA9JLD presented a video (DVD) and still photos of the demolishing the Beloit Power Plant Smoke Stack and part of the adjoining building.
Brett-K9BY showed a Spectrum Analyzer and an Oscilloscope.  They are much more compact than old units; both unit are handheld.
Carl-W9BJ demonstrated his Coax Tester.  This was published in the Oct. 2016 issue of QST.  It used a 13.8 VDC power supply to pass 2 Amperes or more through the test coaxial cable to light lamps; it checked for continuity and short circuits.  We can use this at Field Day.
A 50-50 Raffle was held for cash.  Lyndon-WA9JLD won $14 and a $10 Denny's Gift Card and donated the cash to the club.
Announcements:  Our next meeting is Monday, December 5th, 2016.
Final: The meeting was adjourned at 8:50 pm.
