GBARC Meeting Minutes September 2015

Meeting Date:
September 14, 2015
Meeting Location:
Main Fire Station, 1111 Church St., Beloit, WI.
President Brett, K9BY, called the meeting to order at 7:02pm.   Attendance was 21.  Introductions were made.  The question of the evening was about antennas for which bands; 14 hams had H.F. antennas, most had VHF and some UHF Sky hooks.   Minutes of the June meeting were presented by Carl, W9BJ, club Secretary.    Al, KC9QQO, gave the Treasurers report.

Old Business:  Brett, K9BY, lead a review/discussion of the June Field Day activity.   Visual statistics from our web site were used to report our efforts.   With three stations operating simultaneously, we scored the second largest number of points in eight years.   The only higher year with total points was when we had six stations operating at one time.   New antennas were helpful.   Most participants felt that we had a very successful effort.   It was suggested that we write thank you letters to the Janesville Fire Chief for use of the Fire Training facilities.   President Brett, K9BY, will also send letter of appreciation to Lyndon, WA9JLD, for the Electrical Gasoline Generator; to Fred Braun for help with the generator, and to Doug, W9PN, for being our Field Day Captain.   We should consider other possible Field Day sites for June 2016.

New Business:  Brett, K9BY, present a two part proposal from Doug, W9PN, to the club.   The first proposal was to accept some tower sections donated to the club by Conrad Herald, W9DL.  This was accepted.   The second proposal was for Doug, W9PN, to purchase some of the Rohn 45 tower sections for $400 or a combination of antennas and cash.   After a long discussion, a decision was made to defer the offer for now.

Recently, Doug, W9PN, Brett, K9BY, and Mike, K9OMG, were able to help a handicapped ham, Kevin Sharp, take down his beam antenna and tower for reconditioning.  In appreciation, $200 was donated to the BARC Treasury.  Sunday morning, September 20, 2015 there will be an antenna raising party to reinstall the system.  Help is appreciated.

Kim, N9UBJ, discussed that in regard to a special event station, the Salvation Army of Janesville would interested to participate.  Major Bob Fay will be contacted about this; he may attend our club meeting to discuss this activity, presenting Ham Radio to the Public.

A 50/50 Raffle of $36 was won by Dave, N9JDQ.   Dave donated it to the club Treasury.

Program:   What We Did This Summer was the topic of conversation.   Some travelled, some got new ham equipment and some repaired old equipment.

Announcements:   Dave, AK9F, will prepare a program on the Digital Mode, JT65.   Our next meeting is Monday, October 5th, 2015.

The Peoria Ham Fest is this weekend.

Final:  The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 pm.
